A society in India is a non-profit organization that is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. A society can be formed for any lawful purpose, such as social welfare, cultural activities, education, religion, or sports.

To register a society in India, the following steps should be taken:

  1. Choose a society name: The society name should be unique and should not be similar to any existing society or trademark.

  2. Draft the society’s memorandum of association (MOA) and rules and regulations (R&R): The MOA outlines the society’s objectives, activities, and powers, while the R&R specify the internal governance structure and rules for conducting business.

  4. Obtain signatures of at least seven members: The MOA and R&R must be signed by at least seven members of the society, who will be the founding members.

  5. File the MOA and R&R with the Registrar of Societies: The MOA and R&R should be filed with the Registrar of Societies in the state in which the society is located. The Registrar may require additional documents, such as proof of address and identity of the members.
